PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The CalvertHealth Foundation held its 32nd annual Benefit Golf Classic presented by L2 Construction Management Corporation at the Lothian Cannon Club on May 3rd. More than 150 people, including sponsors, golfers and supporters, helped make it the most successful golf classic in its history. All profits from this year’s event will support the expansion of women’s health services at CalvertHealth.

There continues to be a growing need to expand women’s health services in our community, as evidenced by the most recent Calvert County Community Health Needs Assessment. From higher rates of breast and cervical cancer to specific nutrition and exercise needs, the need for comprehensive health care for women is more important than ever. CalvertHealth will expand coordination of women’s health services at CalvertHealth Medical Center, including support for weight control, breast health and obstetrics and gynecology, supported by expert physicians and the latest technology.

Reflecting on the success of the day, former Foundation Board of Trustees, tournament committee member and Sip and Swing sponsor Mickie Frazer shared: “I have certainly been a great recipient of health care for women at CalvertHealth in recent months and I couldn’t have asked for any better care. I’m willing to do what I can to ensure other women get the care they need. ”

CalvertHealth President and CEO Dean Teague expressed his gratitude to the golfers, sponsors and employees who make it all possible. “Our vision at CalvertHealth is to make a difference in every life we play. I want to thank everyone for participating in this important event as we come together to raise funds to support women’s health in our community. ”The Chair of the Golf Committee and Founder of the Foundation’s Golf Committee Frank Smith of Idea Solutions added: “Taking care of the women in our community (the women, mothers and countless others who care for so many of us), we are realizing CalvertHealth’s vision. to make a difference in every life we play ten times. ” Since the inauguration of the Golf Benefit Classic in 1990, the event has raised more than $ 1.7 million to fund patient care equipment and vital hospital services at CalvertHealth Medical Center.
Instead of starting to shoot, CalvertHealth president and CEO Dean Teague started the tournament with a cannon shot.
In total, 140 golfers went out on the green forming three flights. The winner of the first flight was Kent Island Mechanical. The Crothall Healthcare team won first prize on the second flight and the Waldorf Dodge team won the third flight. Other notable winners were Bryan Harrington who won Closest to the Pin – Men, Mickie Frazer who won Closest to the Pin – Women, Austin Fowler who won Longest Drive – Men and Nickie Zancan who won Longest Drive – Women.
Frank Smith, a member of the Foundation Board and chair of the Golf Committee, addressed participants in the 32nd edition of the Benefit Golf Classic while sharing the importance to him of women’s health as husband and father.
