A new Capstone Rural Health location will officially open on Monday, May 10, in Jasper.
The new location, Capstone West Jasper, is housed at the Jasper Area Family Services Center at 1400 19th St. W. and is accepting patients.
Capstone West Jasper will join the network of other Capstone locations in Double Springs, Parrish, Arley, Nauvoo, and the Capstone Cottage in Jasper, along 12th Avenue West.
Dr. F. David Jones, executive director of Capstone Rural Health, said he is happy Capstone can expand to serve West Jasper, and the idea to do so has been in the works for at least two years.
“We just identified that some patients over here didn’t have access to health care for different reasons, like transportation … or a way to pay for health care,” Jones said. “We always wanted to be here, and I think Donna’s mission and ours merged together quite well.”
Donna Kilgore, whom Jones referenced, is executive director of the Jasper Area Family Services Center that houses a number of community programs.
Capstone West Jasper will occupy the back portion of the family services center, and patients can access the health center by driving to the back of the building where parking is available.
Capstone Rural Health offers primary medical care, women’s and men’s health services, pediatric and adolescent health care, behavioral care, and dental and optometry services. The Capstone Parrish and Nauvoo locations also offer pharmacy services.
Capstone accepts commercial and private insurances, Medicare, Medicaid and the uninsured.
People may call 205-878-6077 to make an appointment at the Capstone West Jasper location, and Jones said scheduling appointments will help Capstone leaders gauge community interest in the new facility.
Capstone West Jasper will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will close for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. each day.
Jones said Capstone does provide transportation for patients if needed, and people may also utilize the Walker County Transportation System’s services by calling 205-265-3989.
“We’re privileged to be here and thankful to serve the community,” Jones said of Capstone West Jasper.
