Florida Coronavirus: The state reports 2,327 new cases, 66 new deaths

TAMPA, Florida (WFLA) – The Florida Department of Health added a total of 2,327 new coronavirus cases to the report Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the state to 2,316,142.

On Tuesday, more than 48,000 people received the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Florida Department of Health. The total number of people vaccinated across the state has officially exceeded 10 million.

New cases were reported (2,316,142 in total since the beginning of the pandemic):

  • Wednesday: 2,327
  • Tuesday: 1,874
  • Monday: 1,606
  • Sunday: 2,069
  • Saturday: 3,406

Positive percentage:

The latest report from the Florida Department of Health shows that the state received 78,132 PCR or antigen lab results from across the state on Tuesday. Of these tests, the state says 4.54% were positive.

  • Monday: 4.84%
  • Sunday: 5.48%
  • Saturday: 5.37%
  • Friday: 4.69%

The positive percentage includes people who have been tested several times to detect the virus, but only one person is counted each day, even if several results are received.

The positivity percentage of new cases was 3.54% on Tuesday. The percentage of positivity for new cases is the number of people testing PCR (nasal swabs) or positive antigens for the first time divided by all people tested that day. This does not include people who have already tested positive once and who have been tested again to see if they are still infected.

Deaths of new Florida residents (36,647 in total since the beginning of the pandemic):

Health officials reported 66 new coronavirus deaths among Florida residents in Wednesday’s report, raising the total number of Floridians who have died during the pandemic to 36,647. The total death toll for non-residents is 735.

The daily report of the health department does not provide the exact date of each death, which means that the reported deaths may not be within the last 24 hours. It can sometimes take weeks for fatalities to be recorded.

Administration of vaccines against COVID-19:

A total of 10,123,898 people have been vaccinated in Florida. Of these, 7,321,887 received the full two-dose series and 769,126 completed the single-dose series of the vaccine, while 2,032,885 received only the first dose. Most vaccinated people in Florida are between 65 and 74 years old.
