“People need to see that cleaning their bedroom is as important as washing or cleaning their face. How do you clean a mattress?
1. Undress the bed and wash the sheets
Remove all sheets, pillowcases, mattress covers or covers, duvets and pillows and clean them thoroughly (following care instructions). You should do this step every week for up to a fortnight. You should also wash your pillow and doona every three months.
2. Vacuum the mattress
Most vacuum cleaners include a special accessory specifically designed to clean mattresses. Check that the accessory is clean, then gently vacuum the entire surface of the mattress, paying special attention to the corners or corners to make sure you get dust mites or other particles.
3. Clean stains from any point
Always remove stains as soon as possible by cleaning the stains with a stain remover (following the mattress care instructions). Place the stain remover on a cloth, then wipe off the stained area until it lifts. Do not soak the mattress or apply a cleaning solution directly to it; this may damage the comfort layers or the dock unit and void your warranty.
4. Ventilate the mattress and make the bed again
Place the mattress under a window in direct sunlight and leave the windows open to kill bacteria / mold and let the fabric breathe. If you can’t put the mattress in the sun, sprinkle baking soda over the mattress. Use it from half a cup to the whole box (depending on the size of the mattress) and let it rest for a few hours or overnight. Then empty the mattress well and put the sheets back on.
