Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that affects 6-26 percent women worldwide. While the exact cause of PCOS is not known, the condition is related to high levels of insulin and other hormone levels in the body.
Since PCOS affects how the ovaries work, the condition causes irregular periods, polycystic ovaries, and excess facial or body hair owing to high levels of male hormones. Being diagnosed with PCOS naturally makes one concerned about the effect this condition can have on a woman’s fertility. Read on to know more.

PCOS is one of the most common causes of infertility in women. However, the condition can be treated and you can get pregnant. The hormonal imbalance in women with PCOS affects ovulation, which is the growth and release of eggs from the ovaries. Your doctor will be able to help you with the right treatment options to raise your chances of getting pregnant by helping you ovulate.

What Are Fertility Treatment Options For PCOS?

There are several treatment options available to help increase your chances of getting pregnant with PCOS.
• Managing Weight And Blood Sugar Levels
Eating healthy and exercising regularly can help regularise your menstrual cycle and improve your fertility.
• Medicines
Your doctor might prescribe medicines to help you ovulate.
• In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
IVF offers higher pregnancy rates compared to medicinal treatment.
• Surgery
In women with PCOS, the cortex or outer shell of the ovaries is thickened, which is thought to prevent spontaneous ovulation. This can be treated with surgery or ovarian drilling, in which a few holes are made in the surface of the ovary using lasers. This treatment can restore ovulation for six to eight months.
