Pennsylvania Rep. introduces bills regarding teen vaccination decisions

A Pennsylvania state representative introduced legislation that would allow teenagers to make their own decisions regarding health care and providing information on childhood vaccinations Monday.Rep. Dan Frankel (D) of Allegheny County, held a news conference Monday at Kids Plus Pediatrics in Pittsburgh at noon to discuss the two bills.He was joined by state Sen. Amanda Cappelletti (D), members of the healthcare community and other stakeholders. One proposal from Frankel would allow people 14 or older to consent to immunizations recommended by the United States Advisory Committee. Parents or guardians would not be able to override the decision. Cappelletti is gathering support for similar legislation in the Senate, according to a news release from Frankel’s office.The second bill would require parents seeking a religious or philosophical exemption from mandatory school vaccinations for children to get an annual medical consultation to understand the potential consequences of not getting vaccinated.
