Once again, the state flags are flying along Egan Drive between 10th Street and Marine Park for the first time in two years, thanks to a group of volunteers who gathered on May 2 to assist! While construction on Egan prevented the installation for two seasons, we want to also recognize the efforts of the Alaska Department of Transportation, ProHNS, and SECON, who ensured this tradition could continue.
Friends of the Flags was originally formed in 1978 through the inspiration of the late Rudy Ripley. In 2019, the volunteer group requested that TBMP and Travel Juneau take over the program, which relies on donations to purchase new flags each year. Also, traditionally, the old flags are auctioned off at the end of the season to fundraise for replacement flags and hardware. Donations can be mailed to Friends of the Flags, c/o Travel Juneau, 800 Glacier Avenue, Ste. 201, Juneau, AK 99801. Checks should be payable to Friends of the Flags.
On behalf of the Friends of the Flags, TBMP, and Travel Juneau, many thanks to the following individuals and organizations for their assistance in this community project!
Darren Booton, Valerie Kelton, Midgi Moore, Elizabeth Arnett, Chris Wolf, Mary Wolf, Jenna Wolf, John McConnochie, Jim Carroll, Kirby Day, Colleen Evanco, Mike Wilson, Grantley Moore, Bill Hagevig, David Summers, Scott Hinton, Liz Perry, Jesse Perry, JPD Officer Bob Dilley, CBJ Engineering, Tyler Rental, Ever Electric, Alaska Department of Transportation, ProHNS and SECON.
Thank you for pouring the love
Chilkat Valley Community Foundation would like to extend a big thank you to the community of Juneau for supporting the “Pour the Love” fundraiser sponsored by the four Juneau breweries. Their creative work and your generous donations raised over $18,000 to support nonprofits in the Chilkat Valley. Haines has had a rough winter, and we are grateful to you, our neighbors, for showing support.
