Do you like washed pineapple? What about getting caught in the rain? Well, if the fear of coronavirus is what keeps you from finding someone who also enjoys both, the White House is trying to help you.
The country’s largest dating apps hope vaccinated singles can be found more easily, the White House announced Friday, part of the push to achieve the Biden administration’s goal of getting 70% of adults should have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before July 4th.
The range of new features will allow users to filter out possible matches based on their vaccination status, as well as free access to premium features such as “boosts”, “super likes” and “super swipes”.
“Social distancing and dating has always been a bit of a challenging combination,” Andy Slavitt, a senior White House COVID-19 response adviser, told reporters Friday. “So today, dating sites like Bumble, Tinder, Hinge, Match, OKCupid, BLK, Spark, Plenty of Fish and Badoo are announcing a number of features to encourage vaccination and help people meet people who have that quality. universally attractive: it has been vaccinated against COVID-19 “.
The White House hopes the new initiative will accelerate vaccinations, following a slowdown in the pace of deployment in recent weeks. More than 60% of Americans 18 years of age or older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and nearly 130 million Americans are fully vaccinated. But the rate of vaccinations has been declining, with an average daily rate of vaccinations falling by almost 50% compared to the maximum in April.
Dating apps can offer a way to reverse this trend. The sites serve more than 50 million users in the United States, Slavitt said, noting that OKCupid research has found that people who are vaccinated or plan to get vaccinated receive 14% more matches than no.
The types of new offers will vary from place to place. Matching, for example, will allow members to add a new “Vaccinated” badge to their profiles and give them a free “boost” so that their profile appears higher in search results. BLK, the largest dating app for black singles, will also give vaccinated users a boost if they add a “Vaxified” badge to their profiles. Tinder, the dating app with more U.S. users, will also have vaccinated badges, as well as a new “Vaccine Center” to help connect users with nearby vaccination sites.
The effort to include citation applications in the vaccine is just one of the sometimes unorthodox measures that officials across the country have resorted to to get more gun doses. Maine, for example, has offered free hunting licenses to vaccinated residents, while the Ohio governor has started a $ 1 million lottery for anyone who has received at least one dose of vaccine.
Of course, what is money without true love? As Slavitt joked on Friday, “we’ve finally found the one thing that makes us all the most appealing: a vaccine.”
