SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI (WPRI) – University of Rhode Island (URI) officials announced Tuesday that all students on campus will be required to demonstrate COVID-19 vaccination before the next semester.
Confirmation of vaccination or an approved exemption must be provided by Aug. 16, according to the university.
“In order to participate in any face-to-face or face-to-face course and activity, students from all URI campuses are expected to be vaccinated in the early fall semester of 2021,” the announcement said.
Some programs may require vaccination before the August deadline, school officials added.
The URI said testing for any vaccine authorized in the United States will be accepted, and students who receive a vaccine that requires two doses will have to prove they have received both vaccines.
Officials also noted that a vaccination test is needed for anyone previously diagnosed with COVID-19.
The university also encourages employees to get vaccinated.
