ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WFRV) – “You never know when someone is approaching you, what they will say or how they will say it,” Carol Shroyer said. Carol and her husband James have a daughter, Jenny Shroyer, who lives with neurofibromatosis. Commonly known as NF, it causes tumors of various sizes and shapes at the nerve endings. When the family saw the story of Mackay Campbell, who is 14 years old and lives with lymphatic malformation, they contacted Local 5 News to tell their story.
“I liked Mackay’s story. It really showed that people are different and that we are created differently,” Jenny Shroyer said. Jenny, 28, has had NF since before she was born. The condition has a 50/50 chance of being transmitted by parents. James, Jenny’s father, also has NF. “I feel guilty, but she’s still my daughter and I love her,” James said. According to James, he is the only one in his family who has this rare condition. “I have it on my face and hands, they’ve removed a surgical part from me. However, they can grow back,” James said.
