Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has lifted all of the state’s remaining COVID rules, including masks, saying the state is no longer in a state of emergency.
I want to congratulate Republican DeSantis for having the courage and gut strength to eliminate all COVID-19 emergency measures, including the mandatory wearing of masks, in the state of Florida.
I also want to congratulate South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem, who never closed the state of South Dakota’s economy or imposed the mandatory use of masks due to COVID-19 in March 2020.
It seems unbelievable that, with all we now know about COVID-19, Hawai’i still lives and trembles for fear of a virus that is no more lethal than the common flu every year.
I am not a person to say that COVID-19 does not exist or that the virus does not present with lifelong medical illnesses for some infected people. The risk of dying or suffering from the effects of COVID-19 is lower and / or comparable to the many flu viruses that affect our county, state and country each year. As FDR famously said in its first inaugural speech, March 4, 1933, “all we have to fear is fear itself.”
Hawaiian Gov. David Ige and Mayor Derek Kawakami, along with other mayors, Senate and House of Representatives in Hawaii, should follow DeSantis’ example in the full reopening of the Hawaiian and Kaua’i economy, including the fact of wearing masks. .
Very few wear the right mask or wear them properly. Unless you wear the right mask and people wear it properly at ALL times, wearing it is just an effort with no effect. In fact, it is harmful to wear a mask for known health reasons. Wearing a mask decreases oxygen intake and increases carbon dioxide intake.
Snope reported that this was true: “Breathing in excess carbon dioxide is dangerous for the body. Some people with pre-existing respiratory illnesses may face health problems with prolonged use of tight-fitting masks, such as respirators. “
Scientific research shows that a mask can have no effect on preventing the spread of COVID-19 if someone does not wear just the right mask (not a small Gucci design) and does not wear the right mask at all times. A suitable mask should be cleaned or replaced daily, without touching or moving the mask on the face, etc. If the proper mask is not worn and held properly while worn, the mask simply becomes SYMBOLISM. The symbolism does not prevent any virus or disease.
Governor Ige and Mayor Kawakami, common sense, CDC and science, dictate that you reopen the economy of Kaua’i and Hawai’i, allowing people’s lives to return to normal, not to a “new normal”. I implore you to follow the example of Governor DeSantis.
We return to work without COVID-19 emergency measures, leave the obligatory wearing of masks and stop with the consideration of relegating people to a third-class citizenry because they are not vaccinated. By the way, I’ve been vaccinated, if you ask me, but do I still have to wear a mask? Because? If vaccination really works like Modern, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson / Janssen and the CDC (with the FDA’s emergency approval seal for good FDA maintenance) say yes, preventing me from infect and infect other people with COVID-19, why should I continue to wear a mask?
It is completely illogical. What is the point of getting vaccinated? Concerns about COVID-19 variants? This useless rush to worry about all the viruses and diseases that may or may not appear is normal. There is always some risk in everything we do. Will we continue to wear a mask for the rest of our lives to possibly prevent us from getting sick? Everything is so ridiculous, unscientific and illogical.
My view is totally consistent with what the CDC claims, scientific fact and simple common sense. The healthy are not quarantined with the sick. Some companies that close and others that remain open cannot be chosen.
Do not close or inhibit places of worship for the right to assemble and worship the First Amendment in the same way as in the past; take communion (holy Eucharist for those who are Catholics), be able to sing without wearing a mask, normal conversation, etc.
It does not prevent people from legally gathering to protest the illegal mandates of the COVID-19 government (a mandate is not a law and cannot be legally enforced). Under the U.S. Constitution and the Hawaiian Constitution, people cannot be quarantined and detained because they choose not to adhere to or follow Hawaii’s COVID-19 mandates. If a person is not shown to be ill, the quarantine and / or detention of a citizen directly violates the constitutions of the United States and Hawaii.
BTW, I have been unemployed since March 18, 2020. Why? I am engaged in tourism and transportation and, without tourism, Hawaii has participated in a “deep kimchee”. The role of government is to protect people and not direct their lives. The purpose of government is to serve the people, not the people who serve the government.
